The new collection comprises 16 short stories, divided into four groups. The first, titled “The Echo of a Rusty Bell,” includes three stories: “The Departure of the Donkeys,” “Another Life,” and “Impotent.” The second group, “The Virtue of the Mirage,” contains five stories: “The Heat of Migration,” “The Glow of the Ears of Corn,” “An Imposed Duty,” “Thuraya,” and “The Executioner’s Ecstasy.” The third group includes one story, “Short Tales.” The fourth group, “Feminine Wisdom,” contains seven short stories: “The Hymns of ‘Ist,’ Confused as Isis,” “Hypatia the Virtuous—The Divider Between Two Eras,” “The Chaos of Ages—After the Sanctification of ‘Serapis’ and the Desecration of ‘Hathor’,” “Restoring the Vanished Dawn by Mentioning the Glory of the Goddess Ma’at,” and “Divinity and Humanity in…” The biography of Hatshepsut, the alienation of Tiye, and the exile of Nefertiti; the most dangerous choice: Cleopatra’s infatuation or the dominance of the military?
