Description

The poet Ibrahim Nasrallah wrote the third part of his book “Storms of the Heart,” titled “The Book of Death and the Dead,” and published this collection in 1997. It comprises a collection of very short poems written in Nasrallah’s distinctive style and poetic philosophy, which is imbued with prose and beauty. What is striking about this collection are the titles of the poems, which are all single words, such as “Coexistence,” “Confusion,” “Loneliness,” “Loyalty,” “Lies,” “Preoccupation,” “Reproach,” and “Death.” These concise titles mostly describe human qualities or situations that people experience or are constantly with, yet all are clear and expressive of the poem’s meaning and the poet’s purpose.

In this book, Ibrahim Nasrallah presents a different style and addresses topics he has not previously explored. Furthermore, this collection is almost unique in that the poet does not mention the cause for which he writes: the Palestinian cause and the suffering of its people, both within and outside their homeland.
