It is a collection of correspondence that reveals Zweig’s deep thoughts and reflections on life, love, and literature, in light of the transformations of his era.

Stefan Zweig sent dozens of letters during his stay in Brazil, most of them addressed to the family of his beloved wife Lotte, especially to her brother Manfred and his wife Hanna. Lotte joined him in writing these letters. The letters were filled with complaints about the conditions of the war and the news of it that reached them through the newspapers, as well as repeated complaints about the difficulty of receiving letters and their delays due to the conditions of the war and the many censorship bodies that examined them, during their travel between two continents separated by a vast ocean and warring fleets. They also complained about the psychological pain resulting from alienation and loss of homeland. Stefan’s psychological suffering was clearly evident due to his reaching retirement age, and Lotte’s suffering due to asthma and the failure to cure it.
