A novel about a young girl who discovers an abandoned garden, where she begins a journey of personal change and emotional growth, exploring the healing power of nature and friendship.
The novel is about an English girl born in India to a father who held a high position in the British administration that ruled there and an aristocratic mother. That girl lives abandoned between the father’s preoccupation with his work and administrative and military tasks and the mother’s preoccupation with her life and social relationships and the compliments and parties they require. The heroine Mary is neglected and her affairs are left to a huge number of Indian servants who are subject to her will and her changing mood as they are to a lazy princess. The first shock that the heroine faces is not the death of her father and mother and a number of Indian servants and nannies due to the cholera epidemic and her return to her homeland England to live with her eccentric uncle, nor even the change in the weather between India and her new homeland. What really shocks her is the strange change in the behavior of those in charge of her service. This violent transformation is what will play the main role in changing the heroine herself. Then comes the role of the place.
