Authored by Widad Kawar and Tania Nasir, this book contains an overview of the Palestinian “fallahi” cross-stitch.
This book presents a collection of sample patterns and design of the “fallahi” embroidery. The beautifully staged patterns are a representative symbol of and a vivid visual identification to each sector of Palestine and it’s villages. The “knowing eye” is able to distinguish each village or district, one from the other. They are objects of art that contain beauty and meaning as well as an expression of the innate creativity and colorful personality of the Palestinian woman.
The cross-stitch patterns presented in this publication have been chosen from numerous articles found in the Widad Kawar Collection of Palestinian and Arab Costumes. The articles include: complete costumes, dresses and headdresses, personal and domestic accessories, cushions and trousseau items, and embroidery fragments.
