The events of the novel begin in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and reach the year of the Nakba, discussing the major joints of this tumultuous time period with its many events, and the bitter conflict between the Palestinian peasants on the one hand and the leaders of the countryside and the city, the Turks, the English, the Jewish immigrants and the Arab leaders on the other hand.
