Abu Abdullah al-Husayn ibn Ahmad ibn al-Husayn al-Zawzani (…-486 AH =…-1093 AD) was a Persian writer, linguist, grammarian, jurist, and poet who lived in the fifth century AH.
Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad ibn al-Husayn was born in the town of Zawzan, to which he is attributed. His date of birth is unknown. Nothing detailed is known about al-Zawzani’s life other than his appointment as a judge in Zawzan, and it is likely that he never left his hometown. His writings reveal that he was a man of vast knowledge, composing a number of works in his native Persian language, in addition to works in Arabic. He is particularly famous for one of his Arabic works, in which he commented on the Seven Mu’allaqat. Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad al-Zawzani died in 486 AH.
