Abu Yusuf Ya’qub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi (185-256 AH / 801-873 AD) was an Arab Muslim scholar who excelled in astronomy, philosophy, chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, music, psychology, and logic (known as theology). Known in the West by his Latin name, Alkindus, al-Kindi is considered the first of the Muslim Peripatetic philosophers and is also famous for his efforts to introduce Arabs and Muslims to ancient Greek and Hellenistic philosophy.
