Al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad al-Dabbi is al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad ibn Ya’la ibn Amir ibn Salim ibn al-Rimal, ibn Abi Salma ibn Rabi’ah ibn Zaban ibn Amir of Banu Tha’laba ibn al-Sayyid ibn Dabba. His nickname was Abu Abd al-Rahman and Abu al-Abbas. He was a trustworthy and prominent figure among the Kufians. He was a narrator of poetry and was known as al-Kufi. He was a linguist, a scholar of the second century AH, and one of the most prominent narrators of poetry. He was a renowned narrator of news, literature, and the history of the Arabs. He came to Baghdad during the reign of Harun al-Rashid and later moved to Basra. He died in 168 AH. He is the author of the book al-Mufaddaliyat, the oldest collection of selected Arabic poetry.
