Alaa Al Aswany (born May 26, 1957) is an Egyptian writer, dentist, and political activist. He has won numerous international literary awards, and his novels have been translated into more than 37 languages and published in over 100 countries. He has written numerous novels, the most famous of which is “The Yacoubian Building.” He is also known for his opposition to the Egyptian regime and writes a weekly column for the German newspaper Deutsche Welle, addressing political and social issues.
