Ali Bader is an Iraqi writer and novelist who gained widespread fame for his novels and literary works. Born in Baghdad, he lived there until he moved to Belgium. After his works were translated into numerous languages, he pioneered the postmodernist movement in Arabic fiction. His works are closely linked to his life and, at the same time, reflect the social, cultural, and political life of Iraq. All his novels are set in Baghdad and focus on the middle class. He has used his novels to paint important pictures of Iraq’s cultural, social, and political history.
