Anthony Hope Hawkins (9 February 1863 – 8 July 1933) was an English novelist and playwright, best known for his novels The Prisoner of Zenda (1894) and its sequel Rupert of Hentz (1898), both set in the fictional modern country of Ruritania. The Prisoner of Zenda opened the door to the emergence of a narrative genre known as Ruritanian romance, and Zenda has inspired many novels and films.
