Bassam Hajjar (January 1, 1955 – February 17, 2009) was a writer, poet, translator, and journalist.
Bassam Hajjar was born in Tyre, southern Lebanon. He earned a BA in General Philosophy from the Lebanese University and pursued his graduate studies in Paris, where he earned a postgraduate diploma in philosophy. He worked in journalism since 1979, writing for Al-Nidaa (1979–1982) and An-Nahar (1978–1990). He was one of the founders of An-Nahar’s weekly literary supplement. Since 1999, he has worked as an editor and writer for Nawafidh, the weekly cultural supplement of Al-Mustaqbal newspaper.
Bassam Hajjar died on February 17, 2009, at the age of 54, after suffering from cancer. He was buried in the Sidon cemetery in Lebanon.
