Captain Marryat was a British naval commander and novelist born on July 10, 1792 in Westminster, London. He served in the British Navy during the War of 1812 and returned to Britain in 1815 and served in the Napoleonic War. He then began to take an interest in science and then began writing novels such as Mr. Midshipman Easy and Children of the New Forest. He died on August 9, 1848 in the village of Langham.
