Emily Daoud Nasrallah (July 6, 1931 – March 13, 2018) was a writer and feminist activist. She grew up in Lebanon and published several novels and children’s story collections. She won numerous awards, including the Said Akl Poet Award in Lebanon, the Fairuz Magazine Award, the Gibran Khalil Gibran Award from the Arab Heritage Association in Australia, and the IBBY International Book Award for Children’s Books for her novel *The Diary of a Cat*.
She graduated from Beirut College for Women (now the Lebanese American University) with a degree in Literature in 1956, then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Literature from the American University of Beirut in 1958. She received acclaim for her writing with the publication of her first novel, *September Birds*, in 1962.
She was a prolific writer, publishing numerous novels, children’s stories, and short story collections dealing with themes such as family, village life, war, immigration, and women’s rights. The latter was a theme she maintained throughout her life.
