Zain al-Abidin Muhammad ibn Ahmad, known as Ibn Iyas al-Hanafi and nicknamed “Abu al-Barakat”, is an Egyptian historian who was born in Cairo in 1448 AD and died there in 1523 AD. He is considered one of the most famous and important historians who documented the Mamluk era, especially in its last period. His book Badai’ al-Zuhur fi Waqa’i’ al-Duhur (5 parts in 6 volumes) is considered his most important work, and in it he documented the vast history of Egypt from the beginning of history until 1522 AD.
