Ibrahim Abdel Majeed (born December 2, 1946) is an Egyptian writer, novelist and short story writer. His most famous works include “The Alexandria Trilogy”: No One Sleeps in Alexandria, Birds of Amber, and Clouds Over Alexandria. These have been translated into English and French.
Ibrahim Abdel Qawi Abdel Majeed Khalil was born on December 2, 1946 in Alexandria. He obtained a BA in Philosophy from the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University in 1973. In the same year, he moved to Cairo to work in the Ministry of Culture. He held many cultural positions, including cultural specialist in mass culture from 1976 to 1980, advisor to the Theater Department in mass culture from 1980 to 1985, advisor to the Egyptian Book Authority from 1989 to 1991, Director General of the General Culture Department in mass culture from 1989 to 1995, editor-in-chief of the New Writings series in the Egyptian General Book Authority from 1995 to 2001, and currently Director General of the Folklore Atlas Project in mass culture.
