Imam Muslim is Abu al-Husayn Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Naysaburi. He was born in the city of Nishapur in the year 206 AH and died there in the year 261 AH. He traveled to the Hijaz, Egypt, the Levant and Iraq in search of hadith. He was one of the imams and preservers of hadith. The scholars of his time and those who came after him acknowledged his progress and mastery in this science. Among his great sheikhs were Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Sa`id ibn Mansur and others.
