Ludwig Feuerbach was a German philosopher and anthropologist best known for his book *The Essence of Christianity*, a critique of Christianity that profoundly influenced generations of later thinkers, including Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Richard Wagner, and Friedrich Nietzsche.
