Mahmoud Darwish (March 13, 1941 – August 9, 2008) is one of the most important Palestinian and Arab poets whose name is associated with poetry of revolution and homeland. Darwish is considered one of the most prominent contributors to the development of modern Arabic poetry and the introduction of symbolism into it. In Darwish’s poetry, love is mixed with homeland and the female beloved. He wrote the Palestinian Declaration of Independence document that was announced in Algeria.
