Marguerite Yourcenar

Marguerite Yourcenar (born Marguerite Antoinette Jeanne Marie Ghislaine Clénercq de Crincourt on June 8, 1903 in Brussels and died on December 17, 1987 in Bar Harbor, Maine, USA) was a French-American writer who acquired citizenship in 1947. She wrote novels, short stories, and autobiographies. She was also a poet, translator, essayist, and literary critic.
She was the first woman to be elected to the Académie française on March 6, 1980, thanks to the support and assistance of Olivier d’Omerson. She received the Prix Femina in 1968.
