Abu Basir Maymun ibn Qays ibn Jandal ibn Sharahil ibn Awf ibn Saad ibn Dhubay’ah al-Bakri, known as al-A’sha and the blind of Qays (7 AH/629-570 AD) is a pre-Islamic poet from the first class of pre-Islamic poets. He was nicknamed al-A’sha because he had weak eyesight. In the language, the blind is the one who cannot see at night and is called: the blind of Qays and the great al-A’sha. Al-A’sha is nicknamed: Abu Basir, as an optimism. He lived a long life and witnessed Islam but did not convert to Islam. He went blind in his late life. He was born and died in the village of Manfuha in Al-Yamamah, where his house and grave are located.
