Muthaffar Abdul Majeed al-Nawwab (born 1934 in Baghdad – died 20 May 2022 in Sharjah) is a contemporary Iraqi poet, prominent political dissident and critic, nicknamed the “Poet of the Smuggled Poem”. He was persecuted and imprisoned in Iraq, after which he lived in several capitals including Beirut, Damascus and other European cities. He was described as “one of the most famous poets of Iraq in the modern era”.
