Saddam Hussein al-Majid (April 28, 1937 – December 30, 2006) was an Iraqi politician and revolutionary. He served as the fifth President of the Republic of Iraq, Regional Secretary of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, and Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces from 1979 to 2003, and as Vice President of the Republic of Iraq, a member of the Regional Command, and Head of the Iraqi National Security Bureau of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party from 1975 to 1979. Ideologically, he embraced Ba’athism, a blend of Arab nationalism and Arab socialism, while his theories and political ideas he advocated are collectively known as Saddamism.
