Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov (Russian: Сергей Викторович Лавров) is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Sergei Lavrov was born on March 21, 1950, in Moscow to an Armenian father from Tbilisi and a Georgian mother, an official in the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Trade. In 1972, Lavrov graduated from the Department of Oriental Languages ​​at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), where he studied English, French, and Sinhala (the native language of Sri Lanka). He began his rise through the diplomatic ranks in that country after being appointed diplomatic attaché at the Soviet embassy in Sri Lanka.
