Sonallah Ibrahim (born February 24, 1937) is an Egyptian writer and novelist with a leftist bent. He is a controversial writer, especially after his refusal to accept the Cairo Forum for Arab Novel Creativity Award in 2003, awarded by the Supreme Council of Culture. He was imprisoned for more than five years, from 1959 to 1964, as part of a campaign launched by Gamal Abdel Nasser against the left.
