Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence (16 August 1888 – 19 May 1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, diplomat, and writer, best known for his role in aiding Arab forces during the Arab Revolt (1916–1918) and the Sinai and Palestine Campaign (1915–1918) against the Ottoman Empire during World War I. He was nicknamed “Lawrence of Arabia”, the same name used as the title of a 1962 film about his life and how he helped Prince Faisal in his revolt against the Ottoman Empire.
