Viktor Emil Frankl (German: Viktor Emil Frankl; March 26, 1905 – September 2, 1997) was an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor.
He is one of the founders of logotherapy, a form of existential psychotherapy. In his famous book, Man’s Search for Meaning, he describes his experience as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp, which led him to discover meaning in all forms of existence, even the most brutal, and thus to discover a motivation to continue living. Frankl became a fundamental figure in the field of existential psychotherapy and a major inspiration to humanistic psychologists.
