Shihab al-Din Abu Abdullah Yaqut ibn Abdullah al-Hamawi al-Rumi al-Baghdadi (574–626 AH/1178–1229 AD) was a writer, poet, linguist, encyclopedia author, calligrapher, and geographer of Roman origin. He resided in Baghdad until his death. He called himself Abd al-Rahman. Among his most important works is “Dictionary of Countries,” which has been translated and reprinted several times.
