My Life Papers Book 1/3 Nawal El Saadawi’s memoirs in 3 exciting parts
“Writing in my life is like a mother’s embrace, like love that happens without a reason, and yet I have not stopped searching for the reason. Why do I write?
It is a mixture of life’s contradictions; her family combines Turkish aristocracy from which the mother descends, and Egyptian simplicity that is rooted in Ethiopian origins to which the father “Mr. El Saadawi” belongs, an employee of the Ministry of Education or “Al-Maqarif” (as he called it). Nawal El Saadawi inherited from her father – who was dissatisfied with the minority parties, the Wafd, and the king, and participated in the 1919 revolution, and demanded the improvement of the living conditions of Egyptians – the genes of rebellion, and from the women of her family she learned that a woman can break free from her shackles or remain a prisoner of her male society. Nawal El Sayed El Saadawi was born in October 1931 in the village of Kafr Talha, one of the villages of Banha district. Seven years later, she moved with her family to the city of Alexandria, then to Menouf in Menoufia. Fate was kind to her, when her father believed that she had the right as a human being to receive the appropriate amount of education. This is how her eyes opened, and this is how her childhood began.
