A study that documents the life of the poet Ibrahim Touqan and his poetic creativity within the literary and national context.
The poet Ibrahim Touqan was born in the city of Nablus, and studied his primary education there during the First World War. Then he joined the Bishop’s School in Jerusalem, where he met Professor Nakhl Zureiq, then moved to the American University of Beirut, where he got to know a number of writers and poets. He remained there until he obtained his university degree from it
Ibrahim dreamed of journalism, but he worked in teaching, and he also worked as the director of the Arabic section in the wireless radio in Jerusalem, and through it he presented many literary works and wonderful radio interviews, including Wafaa Al-Samawal. Ibrahim enjoyed a unique poetic talent, the fragrance of which spread throughout the entire Arab world. But fate rushed him, and if he had given this poetic talent time, it would have given us much that was enjoyable and admirable.
His poetry overflowed with emotions, and he recited poems that occupied the youth of his time. His poems were distinguished by their patriotism, full of emotions and sincere feelings. His poetry also produced delicate love poems and moving elegies, innovating meanings and choosing meters and rhymes, without crying or complaining. The poet participated in many stations, including his participation with the orientalist Dr. Louis Nickel in publishing the book “The Flower.” He was also innovative in his topics, poems and hymns that the people chanted and he was a good follower of events, and “Red Tuesday” is enough for you. He preserved in his poetry the pillar of ancient poetry along with its renewal with the brilliance of the introduction and the tightness of the fabric without affectation, drowning or complexity, and he loved the simple idea that emerges from sincere emotion.
In this book, the author collected the collection of the Palestinian poet Ibrahim Touqan and delved into his life, his birth and environment, and the stages of his studies, then his practical life in education and journalism, and finally his illness and death. This is what the first chapter of the book dealt with. As for the second chapter, it dealt in detail with Ibrahim Touqan’s poetry in its beginnings, then talked about its various types. As for the third chapter, the author reviewed the poems and letters written by the creative hand of Ahmed Touqan, and in the fourth chapter he talked about the radio interviews that the poet conducted. In the fifth chapter, he presented selections from his articles. In the sixth and final chapter, he reviewed the poems of the collection.
