Description
This book presents the Sumerian spiritual heritage through texts and commentaries that the author has reorganized, categorized, and rewritten into a single, continuous epic, enhanced with images, illustrations, and references. It is divided into three chapters: The Gods’ Epic: Sumerian myths recount the story of creation, the emergence of the gods, and their struggles with one another, the forces of nature, and the powers of the underworld. The Human Epic: The gods, weary of their labors, begin to contemplate the creation of humankind. Humanity multiplies, ushering in a golden age, followed by an age of evil and suffering. The gods deem the destruction of humankind necessary through a flood. The Kings’ Epic: Kingship descends from the heavens to Sumer after the flood, revealing the kings and heroes of Sumer and recounting its history and cities until the fall of the Kingdom of Ur and the eventual demise of Sumer.
