Complete Works (Plays) by Ghassan Kanafani … Whoever contemplates the works of Ghassan Kanafani in various literary genres will notice that he is always searching for the different and the new. Perhaps his theater is one of the most important evidence of this. If Ghassan was immersed in the realistic experience that benefited from experimentation in his novels and stories, then in his theater he delved deeper into experimentation in terms of form and content together. For example, we see him resorting to heritage in his play (The Door), drawing on myths and religious and historical narratives to establish a conflict based on symbolic philosophical, existential, and realistic questions and answers about death, freedom, and choice, about authority and the individual, about the unseen and the visible, and about doubt and certainty. He does not present power as absolute and unseen, but rather he presents it as absolute and powerful in the visible, as we see the confrontation between the relative power of the human hero (Shaddad) and the absolute and devastating power (Haya). Although the defiant hero necessarily meets death as a result of the lack of equality, he continues his dialogue and challenge even after death. Perhaps we are exaggerating if we make this challenge between the unyielding moral strength of the Palestinian and the absolute brutal strength of the enemy and the necessity of the challenge in harmony with Assan’s general vision in all his literary works.
