“The Prince,” the most important work of the Italian philosopher and writer Niccolo Machiavelli, is a benchmark for political theory in which Machiavelli paints a realistic picture of political power in the Middle Ages. Through a careful examination of power and leadership, the book presents methods of leadership that transcend moral and ideological traditions, settling in the realms of political realism.
The Prince, which consists of 26 chapters, analyzes the types of kingdoms and how to control them, and paints the ideal image of the ruler who succeeds in maintaining power and controlling his kingdom. However, there is no place in this book for the pure, moral prince. Rather, Machiavelli depicts the true prince, in whom cruelty and kindness, greed and generosity, love and fear are combined, as needed.
This book also deals with how to deal with friends and enemies, nobles and the people, and it explores the subtle and profound aspects of power and leadership.
