In the third part of his captivating autobiography, considered one of the most beautiful Arabic autobiographies, the dean of Arabic literature says:
What matters is for a person to approach life smiling, not frowning, to be serious, not playful, to bear his share of its burdens, to fulfill his share of its duties, to love others as he loves himself, and to influence others with the goodness with which he influences himself. After that, he does not care whether life becomes burdensome or light, whether people are pleased or displeased.
