Description
Every reader of these pages has the right to know from the very first line that what they hold is more of a file than a book in the conventional sense. It is essentially a collection of reports about a specific visit to the Soviet Union at a particular moment in its history, within a specific atmosphere. All of this occurred during a monumental historical process, a period of rapid and overwhelming changes that began as an earthquake within its borders and then swept like a torrent to Eastern Europe, then to Western Europe, and finally to the rest of the world. This torrent swept away prevailing ideologies, entrenched systems, redrawn maps, and balances of power that, for nearly half a century, were thought to be as immovable as mountains!
