It is established to this day that Sibawayh’s book is the first grammar book to have come down to us. What is striking about it is its collection of a number of Arabic sciences, such as syntax, morphology, phonetics, and others. It is most likely that he relied on earlier sources, as it is unlikely that a book like Sibawayh’s book would appear at once without being preceded by smaller works.
