It is a book that discusses the importance of democracy in the Arab world and calls for strengthening it through the concepts of justice and equality in governance.
After many years since the publication of the first edition of this book, the Arab Cultural Center is reissuing it, because the issue of democracy in the Arab world is still, and has become more, a fundamental issue in the debate about the transition of Arab society towards another stage necessary for building the renaissance and contributing effectively to building world civilization.
The Statement for Democracy, in its spirit and substance, is a cry that reflects the intellectual labor of a writer in his early days who lived closely with the harbingers of the major crisis of Arab society and its eruption in the mid-seventies. The Lebanese civil war, in the shadow of which and in the light of its flames, had entered its second year, with no prospect of extinction. The signs of Arab political disintegration on the regional level were warning of real disasters that were soon realized with Egypt signing the Camp David Accords, and the explosive oil wealth was preparing for the public liquidation of the Arab popular and national movement, foremost among which was the Palestinian resistance. From all sides, dark clouds were pouring in to cloud the skies of the region and Arab society.
The choice of democracy is not an obvious or spontaneous choice, it is a choice that means adopting and defending values and a model of relationships in society, in addition to being a political choice in the way of managing power. ! Power. It is the choice of the values of freedom. Above all, this freedom should be a regulator of the laws of justice and equality under the umbrella of the law.
