This book seeks to examine the history of Andalusia from the Islamic conquest until the fall of the Caliphate in Cordoba. It is divided into eight chapters. The first provides an overview of ancient Spanish history and the peoples who ruled in succession. It then examines the conditions of Spanish society before the Islamic conquest, examines the linguistic origins of Spain and Andalusia, and concludes with a brief overview of the geography of Spain.
Since it was not possible to skip over Moroccan history, given its influential role in the conquest of Spain, the second chapter explores the geographical and human nature of Morocco, and provides a glimpse into the history of Morocco and the stages of the Arab conquests of Morocco, from the earliest beginnings until the reign of Musa ibn Nusayr.
The third chapter examines the conquest of Spain and its causes, moving from the period of exploration and the campaign of Tariq ibn Ziyad to the conquests of Abd al-Aziz ibn Musa ibn Nusayr. The fourth chapter discusses the era of the governors in all its details. Chapter five is devoted to the era of the Umayyad Emirate, following the fall of the Umayyad state in the East, the arrival of Abd al-Rahman I in Cordoba and his ascension to the throne, and the subsequent emirs of Cordoba.
Chapter six covers the period of the Umayyad Caliphate in Andalusia in detail, from the declaration of Abd al-Rahman III as Caliph of Cordoba to the caliphate of al-Hakam II – al-Mustansir Billah. Chapter seven, one of the longest, covers the events that began during the caliphate of Hisham II and the decline of the caliphate, up to the reign of Hisham ibn Muhammad al-Mu’tadid Billah and the end of the Umayyad Caliphate in Cordoba.
Chapter eight and the final chapter examines the reasons for the fall of the Umayyad Caliphate in Cordoba. It also examines the cultural landmarks of Andalusia, both religious and civil, including palaces, walls, fortresses, aqueducts, bridges, and baths.
