The prominent thinker Edward Said uncovers the factors that led to the formation and perpetuation of the distorted image of Islam in the West. Most of these factors go back to the beginnings of the Western colonial project, the writings of Orientalists, self-proclaimed experts on Islam, and some powerful media outlets.
Said does not limit himself to a meticulous analysis of the elements of the disease that led to this distorted image of Islam, or the obfuscation of its truth in the West, particularly in America. He also hints at the cure and what Muslims should do to correct this false image.
The translator of this book is Professor Dr. Muhammad Anani, a professor at Cairo University and a distinguished translator, who made great efforts to render Said’s ideas clear to the Arab reader. The Arabic text is well-written and has a bright introduction.
