Description

One is astonished that Imam al-Shafi’i included in his books rulings and boundaries concerning the most fundamental human matters, such as the right to life, freedom, and servitude, relying on the words or actions of a previous caliph.

How can the living be governed by the words and opinions of people who lived in bygone centuries? Since when have the words and actions of people determined the foundations of what is permissible and forbidden, leading to Paradise or Hell?

Here, I am reminded of the painful reality of the Companions of the Prophet, their infighting, their love of prestige, power, and wealth, and their pursuit of these things, even though many religious figures today try to convince us otherwise, obscuring certain documented historical facts and realities.
