It is a poem by Mahmoud Darwish that expresses the daily suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation, and explores the meanings of isolation, resistance, and hope in difficult circumstances.

Standing here. Sitting here. Permanent here.
Immortal here. And we have one goal:

To be.

And after that we differ on everything:

On the image of the national flag
You would do well if you chose, oh my living people, the simple symbol of the donkey
And we differ on the words of the new anthem

You would do well if you chose a song about the marriage of pigeons
And we differ on the duties of women
You would do well if you chose a woman to head the security services
We differ on the percentage, the general and the private,
We differ on everything. We have one goal:

To be…

And after that the individual finds room to choose the goal
Deep, deep
Continues the present tense
His handicrafts,
Beyond the goal.. .
