This book encompasses the poet Abu Tammam’s rich experience in the world of poetry. He restored the brilliance of classical Arabic poetry after it had lost the authenticity that pre-Islamic poetry had been known for. He added to this the elegance of modern poetry of the time.
His poetry reflects his Abbasid culture, with its Arab-Islamic roots, as he immortalizes the victories that were taking place at the time. The events appear as a triumphant ululation, alive and full of movement, which he masterfully depicted. He praises the heroes who fought those battles on the borders of the Islamic state against the Persians and the Romans. He does not hesitate to denounce one of the commanders who fled the battle, abandoning his army to defeat. Therefore, living history can be based on what he brought to life in these poems, as he is considered a chronicler of one of the most important phases of the life of the Islamic nation. This means that he possessed extensive knowledge of Arab life from the pre-Islamic era to his own time. He was truly a master of all poets who came after him, without exception.
Given the importance of preserving the collections of Arab poets to enrich the Arabic library and facilitate research for the Arab reader, this book, prepared by Dr. Muhyiddin Subhi, compiled our poet’s prose poetry from here and there, and worked to verify and explain it for the benefit of all.
