The poet “Kaab bin Zuhair bin Abi Salma” belongs to a family that had many poets. His father Zuhair was a poet, his maternal uncle Bashamah bin Al-Ghadeer was a poet, his sister Salma was a poet, and so was his sister Al-Khansa. His two sons were poets, to the point that Ibn Qutaybah said about the Al-Zuhair family, “It is said that poetry has not been connected to any of the sons of the stallions in the pre-Islamic era as much as it was connected to the sons of Zuhair, and in Islam as much as it was connected to the sons of Jarir.” The narrators agreed that Kaab was one of the stallions who excelled in poetry, and was at the forefront of his class. They describe his poetry as having strong cohesion, rich words, and sublime meanings.
