Description
We present to the Arab reader a selection of letters from the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900) to his family, friends, and acquaintances. These rare letters, written during his lifetime, reveal various aspects of his relationships with philosophers, thinkers, artists, and musicians whom he encountered throughout his life, a life brimming with philosophical activity. They also offer glimpses into the daily life of this prolific philosopher and his stances on numerous issues that preoccupied him. These letters reveal Nietzsche the man: his feelings and emotions, his love and anger, his almost monthly correspondence with his mother and sister, and Nietzsche the man and the artist, the lover and performer of music.
These letters recount Nietzsche’s pain and suffering during his battle with the illness that afflicted him. They demonstrate to the reader how this philosopher wrote his personal daily history alongside his major works, which are cherished by modern and contemporary philosophical history.
