“Dear Father, you recently asked me why I insist, as always, that I am afraid of you. I couldn’t answer, perhaps because the fear itself paralyzed my tongue, and also because explaining the reasons for this fear would require delving into details I cannot even approximate while speaking. Even if I were to try to give a written answer now, it would still be far from complete, because this fear and its consequences, even on paper, bind me before you, and because the subject matter far exceeds the limits of my memory and my capacity for analysis.”
