Description
This book forms the basis of the doctrines and laws of the Mormon faith. They consider it a sacred text, written by ancient prophets. It recounts the events between two groups of immigrants to America, one from Jerusalem and the other from Babylon. After bloody wars and conflicts, they annihilated each other, except for one group believed to be the ancestors of Native Americans. Mormon doctrine rests on the firm conviction that they are followers of a Christian church that believes in the Bible, and that Jesus Christ appeared in America after his resurrection. He is the one who inspired the Book of Mormon to Joseph Smith, who is a prophet like Moses. Smith received tablets and divine revelation and was tasked with restoring the Christian faith, which had been corrupted. Regardless of our opinions about Mormonism, and despite the campaigns waged against it, especially by Christian churches, it remains one of the fastest-growing religions, with a strong and widespread presence across the globe. As it gains more believers, it offers something to satisfy the spiritual needs of an increasing number of people. Even if we don’t believe in it, its religious heritage deserves to be examined and studied, as it is part of the world’s religious heritage.
