Description
This is Salman Rushdie’s seventh novel, in which he foreshadows New York City as the epicenter of globalization and all its tragic fractures.
Malik Solanka, a Cambridge-educated millionaire from Mumbai, seeks to escape himself. Initially, he flees his academic life by immersing himself in a world of miniatures and sculptures. Eventually, he creates a doll called “Little Brain” and leaves academia to work in television.
However, his dissatisfaction with the growing popularity of “Little Brain” awakens the latent evils within Solanka, leading him to attempt to murder his wife and child. Seeking further escape, Solanka travels to New York, hoping to lose himself and his evil in America, only to find himself forced to confront his own inner demons.
