Description
This book comprises a collection of lectures delivered by Fromm on various occasions, interconnected to discuss the essence of humanity and the features of the future in contemporary society, between the tragedies of the past and the new challenges.
The Being of Man by Erich Fromm was published by Dar Al-Hiwar, translated by Muhammad Habib, as part of a distinguished psychology series that includes Fromm’s other works.
About the book The Being of Man: Today’s idols are objects of systematically contagious greed: greed for money, power, lust, glory, food, and drink.
Man worships the means and ends of greed: production, consumption, military power, business, and the state. The more he strengthens his idols, the weaker he becomes, and the more empty he feels.
Instead of joy, he seeks excitement; instead of life, he loves the world of automated devices; instead of growth, he strives for revolution; instead of being, he is preoccupied with possession and use.
