A poetic contemplation that expresses the depth of the Palestinian cause in a symbolic style that reveals the struggle of identity and resistance.
Mahmoud Darwish’s poems are a striking modern phenomenon in the history of Arabic poetry. His visual language takes him to limitless worlds, through which he sails to contemplative horizons in places and times to establish a poetic scene in which the text, bearing the meaning, and the sound are synonymous. In Attempt No. (7). The poet seems to be haunted by the sounds that shade his poetic expression and what it contains of artistic, formative and vocal values that enrich the inner meaning of the poem. In the poem that opens his collection and is titled (As if I love you), the poet says:
As if… “The mountains have all disappeared / And as if I love you / As if the French airport is crowded / With goods and people / All goods are legitimate) / Ah.. Behind your eyes.. My country / I was attached / To the back that advances / I lost my Damascene sword accused / Of defending the clay / My sword has no opinion on the origin of the caliphate / So they accused me / They hung me on the tower / And left / To restore the intention of hospitality .. / As if I truly love you …. This is how the poet appears in his care for his poetic images through the sensory approach between the word and its meaning, as the poet writes only to achieve meaning, in poetry, through the effectiveness of language.
